Even in a state with over 72,000 lawyers, finding a professional that you can trust to adequately help solve your legal tussles can still prove hectic. In most cases, you just don’t know the kind of lawyer to approach for your particular situation, such as whether a criminal or civil law practitioner.
In other instances, especially in cases of emergency, you just don’t have enough time on your hands to vet the professionalism of different attorneys. These are some reasons informing the establishment of a Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS).
How does it work?
The establishment of a 24-hour online service platform aimed at matching clients with qualified and experienced New York State Bar attorneys. It seeks to reduce the stress and amount of time taken by a client to find a reputable attorney for any legal discourse. Whenever you need attorney services in New York, you will only need to head over to LRIS website. Here you fill up a confidential questionnaire outlining your legal issue and location.
In cases of emergency, you can opt to call the State Bar offices and have one of their staff review your case. In either case, the state bar staff individually review your questionnaire requests and link you with a professional attorney near your location. And should your location fall within the 17 counties with local referral services, the State Bar staff forwards your request to the county office for a personalized review.
You should, however, note that while the matching services are free, you will incur $35 consultation fee for the first 30 minutes of your client-attorney meet up.
After which you can go ahead and agree on the attorney fees if you decide to hire their services. The service matches you with lawyers specializing in different fields including criminal matters, marriage and child custody issues as well as labour issues where professionals like Goldstein specialize in.
