The Bible says that we should not be ashamed of the gospel because the gospel is the only thing that can save mankind. Often when people hear this statement they think Christians are only advocating for belief and doctrine. However, I say unto you that the gospel is a summation of two different things.
Firstly it is about loving God and secondly it is about loving man. When you look in the Old Testament the two things that are mentioned the most are idolatry and justice. God was thoroughly interested in finding justice for those who are oppressed and subjected to tyrannical rule.
Today, illegal immigrants are feeling the effects of oppression and tyranny. In Mexico they deal with drug lords and politicians who seek to use them for their own ends.
When they escape that country and come to the United States of America they find that they are unable to give work and they are subjected to low daily pay which goes underneath the table and robs them of proper funds.
Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin have a way to make this evil stop. These two men are activists for immigration reform and they run the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund.
Oddly enough, this nonprofit came into existence when Sheriff Joseph Arpaio even legally trampled on the rights of these two men. Ever since that time, this nonprofit has sought to give Hispanics and Latinos the rights of everyday Americans and fight for their ability to speak freely.
Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin encourage America to approach immigration reform in a holistic and systematic manner. They believe that America should come up with a way to welcome immigrants into this country, providing them the education and skills needed to gain an occupation, and then followed them into work so they can be productive citizens.
While Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin have been advocating for this systematic plan, Sheriff Joseph Arpaio has come out of the shadows to oppose this great change.
Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin have dealt with Sheriff Joseph Arpaio for quite some time. They have reported on the evil deeds he has done to Hispanics and Latinos.
The first evil that Sheriff Joseph Arpaio committed to the Hispanic community was by stacking the Maricopa County Police Department toward a racial bias. To keep it simple, all officers were fired who believe in equality and new officers were hired as long as the racial biases could be confirmed.
The second evil that Sheriff Joseph Arpaio committed to the Hispanics was by enacting punishment upon them even though they were not found guilty of crimes. It is not unheard of for Sheriff Joe Arpaio to allow Hispanic men to be beaten during arrest, homes to be set on fire, and women illegally detained.
There are many more evils that I could share the Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin have done a very good job in writing on these issues in order to touch America’s compassionate hear.
