Who Is Robert Ivy?

Robert Ivy is the C.E.O. of the American Institute of Architects. He has a Master’s Degree from Tulane University as well as a cum laude Bachelor of Arts degree from Sewanee. His main goal is to stimulate the public’s interest in building and architecture. As an architect who cares about the environment and global progress, he has implemented work in energy conscious design as well as the use of solar and wind energy.

Robert Ivy has received multiple awards, including the Presidential Design Award as an international adviser for the Federal Triangle planning project. He was nominated for the Jesse Neal Award, the most prestigious editorial honor in the field of specialized journalism. He was the correspondent for Progressive Architecture magazine, where his leadership and understanding of the field of architecture, got him the Jesse Neal Award. Aside from all of this, he’s also been a delegate of the Architects’ Council of Europe in Brussels.

A bit of background history for Robert Ivy: In 1996, Ivy became the Editor in Chief of Architectural Record. The amazing thing he did there was grow this magazine to become the most widely read architecture journal in the world. This is no easy feat. Ivy has also been involved with the book publishing company, McGraw Hill, you may be familiar with them, since most middle and high school books are published by this company. In this stage of his life, Robert Ivy became the Vice President and Editorial Director of McGraw-Hill Construction Media. With McGraw Hill he was able to create a sustainable design magazine, among others. One of the magazines he led at McGraw Hill actually earned him more awards than previously mentioned, including the premier magazine journalism award, and the American Society of Magazine Editors National Magazine Award for General Excellence.

In 2010 he became “Master Architect” when the national architect fraternity, Alpha Rho Phi, voted to appoint Robert Ivy to this prestigious position. This means he is the only person to receive this award in the 21st century. If you didn’t know who Robert Ivy is, you now know and should be very impressed. Most of these awards and accomplishments can only be received and held by someone whose life IS architecture.
